April marks National Internship Awareness Month. We’d like to highlight this year's UBPS interns who make meaningful contributions to UBPS’s lasting impact across campus: Aubree Noor, Activations Intern, and Lissette Ortiz, Marketing and Communications Intern. Read more about their advice and experience as interns below.
Aubree Noor
Aubree is a first year Berkeley student in the Haas School of Business, pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Management. She serves as an activations assistant for UBPS, where she manages partner activation sheets and asset folders–tools used to organize and track marketing campaigns and partnership deliverables across campus.
In addition, she tracks partner campus activations, develops partner timelines to ensure campaigns stay on schedule, and collaborates with campus stakeholders and business partners to collect performance metrics and verify proof of performance, ensuring all partnership commitments are successfully executed and documented.
Lissette Ortiz
Lissette is a Berkeley senior majoring in Media Studies. She also serves as a marketing and communications intern for UBPS, where she supports the development, execution and evaluation of marketing strategies for the department and its campus and industry partners. Her work includes creating and managing a comprehensive multimedia strategy, such as web, social, graphics and video, to help communicate UBPS initiatives and partner collaborations across campus channels.
What’s one skill or experience you’ve gained during your internship with University Business Partnerships & Services that you think will benefit your future career?
Noor: One of the most valuable experiences I gained was managing the partner database, timelines, accumulating proof of performance, tracking and facilitating partner activations. It made me proficient in overseeing sponsorships structures while maintaining operations with partners and stakeholders, which is useful in any business-centered role.
Ortiz: One of the most valuable skills I have gained through this internship is the ability to be adaptable. I enjoy taking part in multiple projects where I am able to gain new skills. From creating social media graphics to video editing or interviewing campus partners. I enjoy being able to unleash my creativity while also learning new skills along the way. I hope to take these skills into future roles.
What advice would you give to other students who are thinking about applying for an internship while at UC Berkeley?
Noor: My advice is to make use of every opportunity available on campus. Internships provide real world exposure, so don’t be hesitant to make the most of the experience once you get it. Put yourself in positions where you can learn as much as possible.
Ortiz: One piece of advice I would give is not to underestimate your skills. There are many different internships that Berkeley offers. So there are many opportunities to gain hands-on experience and further those skills.
