The University of California Office of the President has launched a 2-year pilot program to help UC campuses jumpstart their revenue generation (Rev-Gen) activities through establishing multicampus partnerships. Developing new sustainable sources of revenue is an important strategy for UC campuses to develop firmer and broader financial foundations. This pilot program is part of the SupplyChain500 Initiative (SC500) which aims to transform UC procurement supply chains across the UC system to deliver $500M in annual benefit in support of the University’s mission of teaching, research and public service.
UC Berkeley, which has led the system in developing multiple Rev-Gen partnerships through the University Partnership Program (UPP), will spearhead the pilot program in conjunction with UC Procurement Services. UC Davis and UC San Diego, who have similar campus programs, will also provide consultation and support. Funding for the pilot program was granted by UC President Janet Napolitano in early spring of 2019.
UPP builds meaningful, university-wide relationships with business partners by collaborating with Supply Chain Management, Business Contracts and Brand Protection, and other campus units to create partnership opportunities that align with Berkeley’s values and mission. Since launching in 2015, UPP’s partners have contributed over $24 million to UC Berkeley in support of campus programs and initiatives which have impacted thousands of students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The new UC pilot program will follow UPP’s model, working closely with the campuses to develop operating principles, program processes and policies, and a governance model for multicampus partnerships. Representatives from each campus can receive guidance on how to build out and grow their own programs, in addition to collaborating on opportunities to participate in larger multicampus partnerships.
