Letter from the Executive Director

As we reflect on the progress made in the 2023-2024 academic year, it’s evident that our campus partnerships play a vital role in fostering growth and advancement within our campus community. From collaborating on campuswide initiatives to providing new services and product offerings, our partners have showcased their commitment to fostering an innovative and inclusive environment for our students, employees, alumni and the broader community. In addition, campus stakeholders consistently demonstrate resilience and adaptability amidst ever-evolving campus needs and continue to work with our partners to build opportunities and address challenges through partnership.

In an effort to deepen relationships and enhance opportunities, I am excited to announce the launch of our UBPS Stakeholder Community of Practice. This group aims to provide University Business Partnerships & Services (UBPS) stakeholders an environment to share best practices and enhance collaboration among those managing campus partners and sponsors. By fostering this community, we can collectively elevate our campus efforts and better serve the UC Berkeley community.

Our UBPS team has also been instrumental in the launch of the Berkeley Space Center—a proposed, 36-acre innovation center at NASA Ames in the heart of Silicon Valley where academia, private industry and government come together to identify, incubate and launch tomorrow’s technological breakthroughs. The project represents the realization of UC Berkeley's vision to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship across the breadth and depth of academia and government partnerships and accelerate the translation of research discoveries into goods and services that benefit the public. We are proud to contribute our expertise to ensure its success and positive impact.

As we look ahead, we are thrilled to welcome Rich Lyons as the university’s 12th Chancellor. His prioritization of campus culture, expertise in innovation and entrepreneurship, and vision for our campus inspires us. UBPS is eager to support his plan to bring the campus into a state of “financial strength” through partnerships and sponsorships that are consistent with our university mission and values.
